Haha... Seems like my physical body haven been doing so well over the past 2 mths... Guessed I have to give a update to all who are not too sure of what really happened to me... (To those who dunno what I am talking about, GOOD! 'cos it's over already...)
Exactly one month ago, 2nd July, I went Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) A&E due to a 4 days of high fever, vomit and diarrhea... After taking blood test and stuff, my blood platelet level was as low as 74 (i think), which is way lower than normal range or 150-400... So the conclusion was I kanna dengue, so I was admitted to CDC Ward straight after... During the stay, I have to take drip and blood test everyday (which means injections!). I was instructed to take as much fluid intake as possible to have a faster recovery. (can imagine how many times i have to visit the toilet for that...) My appetite started to come back and my fever went off... After a 4 days of stay in CDC, I was finally discharged with 1 week of MC to start home and rest until my blood platelet level rise back within the normal range...
Thank God, 2 weeks after my discharge (with proper rest and stuff at home), I went to the polyclinic and took a blood test and my results are good.
但是, 一波未平, 一波又起... 祸不单行, there are signs of chest pain here and there ever since... Initially, I thought it was just some muscle ache after long time of resting and so i kinda ignored it all along... until 2 more weeks, i sensed that maybe something is wrong somewhere, so my parent decided to take me to my family doctor for a check up... (Why my parent got so worried abt me is due to a similar case happened to me back in my NS days...)
Flashback: I was undergoing platoon field camp during my OCS training days... During one of the usual 'tekan' sessions, I over exerted myself until I couldn't take the physical punishment and i asked to fall out to rest... I got breathless and my heart was pumping hard and fast... The medic attended me after 30min and still found my pulse very fast.
"Need to go Medical Centre" he said...
So I thought, maybe it was a good thing to 'siam' the 'siong' training then... Little did i know... Upon reaching medical centre, more medic came and took so checking on me, including ECG and got an abnormal report.
"Need to go A&E" they said...
So my whole day was spent travelling from camp site to Medical Centre, queuing for check-up and waiting for report, travelling to A&E and waited and waited and waited again...
"Need to refer you to heart specialist" they said...
And some of you may know, that's what caused me to be Out-Of-Course(OOC) from OCS and my remaining interesting life in army...
So, my parents got worried that it may be my heart problem again that cause chest pain, so went to family doc...
Family Doctor checked and said, "ECG slightly abnormal, better go A&E in case"
Go to TTSH A&E (again) and took blood test and stuff, "We will need to admit you to ICU", said the doctor.
"Huh?"
"We believed that your situation is serious enough to be put under close observation."
Shocking indeed, I was the 1st one kanna shocked, subsequently my parent, then my brother, then those who received sms from my brother, and then the rest who heard from them... (Sorry if that cause u a panic, it was unintentional!)
So I was admitted to ICU ward that night, with no handphone to communicate with anyone, I just lied on the bed with all the machines and tubes running all over me... (that makes me real sick..) Some of you were lucky enough to catch a sight of my situation in ICU the following day, for those who never, use your imagination... (something like the dying old man in the 'whatever/anything' drink commercial...) I guessed the most unbearable part abt the stay in ICU is the loss of communication with the outside world! Seriously, I really felt like dying without my handphone around... So many people I need to contact due to my sudden disability to help in things and yet I can't let them know...
But thank God, I only spent one nite in the ICU (and the cold air-con)... And I also experienced some of the ICU treatment for the patients... (ask me in person for details..) I was transfered to general ward the next day afternoon, with no more tubes on me! The doctor concluded that there is no heart attack or heart problem, but rather, a virus infection on the protective sag around my heart which has caused the chest pain. The virus is highly suspected to be from the dengue fever.
And, as there is currently still no cure for dengue virus, I was only issued pain-killers to relieve my chest pain and basically waiting for my body to recover by itself... Hence, I am discharged again after 4 days to rest back home... Given 2 weeks MC this time... No physical exercise to be done within next 3 mths... which means i may got to miss AHM this year... =(
So here I am, resting at home and writing this report of my whole hospital incident to you, whoever missed the 'show' or whoever curious to know the details...
Just wanna thanks all of you who have sent your sms concerns to me over these period of time, not forgetting those who had visited me in the hospital... Really appreciated that...
And sorry once again to all the people whom I can't help out in the things I promised to do for this week...
And for those who are still in the shock or dunno i already discharged, be assured now that I am still fine! Just need to endure a bit of chest pain for a few more days while resting at home b4 I will be recovered! So don't worry...
If you really worried and wanna pay me a visit to be safe, can contact me to arrange a time to come my house and visit me... LOL... But it won't be necessary, unless there you are really free and have some catching up to do with me... Hehe... =p
